PhD Opportunity in Economics: Geopolitical Effects of Critical Raw Materials
The University Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) is seeking a PhD candidate in economics to explore the geopolitical effects of critical raw materials.
Research Focus
The PhD research will examine how the use of critical raw materials impacts geopolitics through supply chains and the development of social capital. While local extraction enhances autonomy and reduces supply chain vulnerabilities, it also necessitates strong local social capital to foster cooperation, improve acceptance, and boost R&D investments.
Supervision & Collaboration
The PhD will be supervised by Pr. Aude Pommeret (USMB), with additional guidance from Lin Zhang (City University of Hong Kong).
Funding & Research Environment
This PhD is funded by the Solar Academy (USMB) and the TAEF (Technical and Economic Foresight) project. TAEF (see project details) is part of the “PEPR Subsoil” program by the French ANR, a large interdisciplinary initiative (€75M). The PhD student will collaborate with a diverse research team across multiple disciplines.
